Colony Counter

Colony Counter

Automatic Colony Counter - PSF Series

The PSF series automatic colony counters (PSF‑1100 up to PSF‑7200) are designed for rapid and accurate count of microbial colonies grown on petri dishes, films, filters, and spiral plates.

By combining high-resolution imaging, uniform illumination, and intelligent image-processing software, PSF colony counters eliminate the limitations of manual visual counting – saving time, improving accuracy, and ensuring consistent results across operators and laboratories. While manual counting of ~300 colonies takes ~5 minutes, the PSF system counts in just 1-5 seconds per dish.

Key Features and Benefits:

Uniform Illumination & Bright/Dark Field Control

Uniform Illumination & Bright/Dark Field Control

In the hardware, we have achieved a uniform background in both bright and dark field conditions in the measurement area by our original lighting technology.
In addition, even with the software, brightness unevenness of the culture medium itself can be corrected, and all areas other than colonies can be made into a uniform background.
As a result, even if there is a slight difference between the culture medium and the colonies, it is possible to select only the colonies and count the number with high accuracy.

Adjustable Hight of the Upper / Top Light

Adjustable Hight of the Upper / Top Light

Top lighting is required for specimens whose media do not transmit light, or when detecting colonies by colour.
It is possible to change the height position of the top lighting. By this function, the outline of colonies can be clearly photographed.
Height adjustment is only available in PSF-2100/5100/7100.

Possible Manual Correction

Possible Manual Correction

After automatic measurement, it is possible to do manual correction. Manual correction in PSF series has three functions, add false-negative colonies, delete false-positive colonies, and except an area for count.
The operation is easy and can be carried out with mouse clicks.

Automatic Petri Dishes Detection

Automatic Petri Dishes Detection

The system automatically detects the round petri dish area, eliminating manual alignment.
This makes it possible to perform measurement regardless of the position of the sample on the stage, freeing the user from the trouble of setting the laborious area and adjusting the petri dish position. It is also possible to adjust the area range by setting the offset value in advance."

Easy Count with Automatic Binarization

Easy Count with Automatic Binarization

With the automatic binarization function, it is possible to count without making any troublesome condition setting. Combined with the automatic round petri dish detection function, the time required for setting conditions can be significantly saved. The user can count more accurately by setting the optimum conditions.

Easy Colour Count

Easy Colour Count

Uses Lab color space close to human vision. With one mouse click, you can extract colored colonies that were previously difficult to set conditions for. Once created, conditions can be saved and used for repeated measurements, and can be fine-tuned.
Four models equipped with optimal lighting system and colour camera necessary for colony counting and inhibition zone measurement.
